Description
This coin was never intended to be a permanent issue, it was only going to last until after the Civil War hoarding ceased but they kept making them until 1889 when the 10 cent silver dime came out which was the same size as the 3-cent nickel which caused confusion in the mechanical Vending Machines. The obv. has the Liberty head facing left with the word Liberty on her headband & the year 1865. The rev. has the roman numeral 111 encircled with a wreath.
