Description
This coin was known as the Indian Penny. In 1864 the alloy changed to Bronze, 95% copper & 5% tin & zinc, the weight also dropped from 72 grains to 48 grains which stayed that formula until 1982 when it changed to a copper plated Zinc cent. Obverse has the head of Liberty wearing a headdress of a Native American, with the word Liberty on the band. The Reverse has the words one cent encircled with a wreath & a federal shield above.
