Description

ATHENA was the daughter of Zeus, the King of Gods, & his first wife Metis, which was of all beings, “the most knowing”. Athena was the Goddess of the city, the Protectress of Civilized Life, of Artisan Activities & of Agriculture. She invented the horse-bit which, for the first time, tamed horses, allowing men to ride them. Athens is her city, the olive tree, created by her, is her tree, & the owl, is the birth consecrated to her. This was one of the most widely circulated coins in Greece. Bearing the image of Athena, the Goddess of  Wisdom on the obverse, & the Owl of Wisdom on the reverse.
